Instead of making you scream for it, this sea salt caramel ice cream will leave you speechless. Really. I served it at a small gathering and conversation was replaced with quiet moans of pleasure. You might think of vanilla and caramel as sweet but plain flavors. They can be a little ho-hum, thanks to the artificial extracts found in most store-bought desserts. Follow this recipe and behold the raw power of simple, high-quality ingredients. The real vanilla beans and homemade caramel will slap your taste buds silly.

Tips:

  • Better ingredients make better ice cream. I use Promise Land dairy products to make my ice cream.
  • Want softer ice cream from the freezer? Allow your custard to cool overnight before adding it to your ice cream maker and try churning the ice cream for 5-10 minutes longer.
  • Try substituting the half & half with 2% milk for a lighter version. You may not be able to tell the difference.
  • Don’t forget to place your ice cream machine containers in the freezer for 24 hours prior to making your ice cream.
